After a difficult few months it is time to look forward to 2012 and the opportunities ahead. As any athlete knows injury can be a crushing blow but what doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger.
My build up for the Berlin Marathon was going very well in August until a niggle turned into a serious injury and I was forced to withdraw in the days leading up to the race. I felt cheated. I had nothing to show for all the hard work in training and the support from my coach and husband Nick, it was a bitter blow. I had never felt so low.
Even after the initial rest period the rehabilitation was a daunting and slow process. Would I ever be able to run well again? I had a mountain to climb but again with support from my coach, Nick and my physio there was light and the end of the tunnel.
After 4 months of cross training and rehab I’m feeling refreshed and so happy to be back to my training routine. I feel like Sonia again!
